Your tasks

  • Monitor soil moisture in the field and determine soil hydraulic properties in the laboratory
  • Measure pore structure with X-ray computed tomography
  • Determine root density profiles and species contribution in the field
  • Statistical evaluation of rooting strategies based on various sources of input information
  • Participation in the UFZ graduate school HIGRADE
  • Publication of the results (paper, conference)

Your profile

  • Master’s degree in Agriculture, Biology, Soil Science, Geoscience or related natural sciences.
  • Note: applicants must be doctoral candidates, i.e. not already in possession of a doctoral degree at the date of the recruitment.
  • Experience with imaging techniques and statistical analysis is welcome
  • Very good skills in communication/ English language skills
  • Ability to work independently and motivated to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Good organisational skills and driver’s license valid in Germany
  • Mobility Rule: researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their recruitment date. Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays, and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention are not taken into account.
